The cPanel File Manager offers the functionality to move, edit and manipulate the files you have in your website.
Most commands are found at the top of the tab:
File – To create a new file in the directory, prompts you to name the file and what extension it will use and where it will be located.
Folder – To create a new folder in the directory, also prompting the name of the folder and where it will be located in the domain directory.
Copy – Select the folder or file you want to duplicate, then click on Copy, to assign the location of the copy.
Move – Select the folder or file you want to move, then click on Move.
Upload – Click on upload and you are prompted to an upload page.
One then drags and drops what they want to upload, or you can select the file from Select File button. If you want the File Manager to automatically overwrite the files with same name, you can click on the Overwrite existing files checkbox.
Download – Select one or multiple files then click on download to retrieve those files from the directory.
Delete – Select one or multiple files or folders and then click delete and that will move them to the trash (this can be recovered if in trash) whilst if you click on skip the trash, this will permanently delete the file(s).
Rename – Select a file or folder and Click to rename
Edit – That is for text editing, from the Php file or txt file. Select what file one wants to edit, enabling a prompt with Encoding check if enabled, then click on Edit in prompt to edit the file. Text editor will open in a new tab, where you can edit the file.
Compress – This compresses files or folders to various formats mainly Zip, Gzip or Bzip2 (these are the only formats cPanel can compress to), which are prompted for you to select. cPanel will ask you to enter the file name, enter file name accordingly and click Compress File(s).
Extract – To extract a compressed File, select the file you wish to extract and click on Extract. A prompt for a location to enter a path to where the file should be extracted, of which if the path does not exist, the cPanel File Manager will create the directory and extract the file in it.
View – This option allows the viewing of content of different file types within the cPanel Interface,one selects the file you want to view and click on View, which opens a new tab for one to see.
